Finals Structure

General:

At the end of each regular season the EDJBA plays a 3 round finals series, comprising of Semi Finals, Preliminary Finals and Grand Finals. The teams who participate in finals are:

•             All teams in Under 14 and below

•             Most ‘A’ grade teams

•             All pools with 12 teams play top 4 and middle 4 finals

•             All remaining pools only play top 4 finals

The reason all teams in Under 14 and below play finals is because the emphasis is on these age groups playing as many games of basketball as possible and giving teams more opportunity to play in a final, which is a different experience.

In a 4 pool final this is how it works:

Qualifying Game:  1st team on the ladder plays the 2nd team on the ladder in the Semi Final.

Elimination Game:  3rd team on the ladder plays the 4th team on the ladder in the Semi Final.

The winner of the Qualifying Game goes straight through to the Grand Final, which means they don’t play the Preliminary Final.

The loser of the Qualifying Game plays the winner of the Elimination Game in the Preliminary Final.

The loser of the Elimination Game is out of the finals series.

The winner of the Preliminary Final plays in the Grand Final.

The loser of the Preliminary Final is out of the finals series.

The winner of the Grand Final is the final winner for that pool.

In a 3 pool final this is how it works:

Qualifying Game:  1st team on the ladder plays the 2nd team on the ladder in the Semi Final.

Bye:  The 3rd team on the ladder has a Bye.

A Bye means they don’t play in the Semi Final but they go straight through to the Preliminary Final.

The winner of the Qualifying Game goes straight through to the Grand Final, which means they don’t play the Preliminary Final.

The loser of the Qualifying Game plays in the Preliminary Final against the team that had the bye in the Semi Final Round.

The winner of the Preliminary Final goes through to the Grand Final.

The loser of the Preliminary Final is out of the finals series.

The winner of the Grand Final is the final winner for that pool.
