Free Throw Positions

To create a fair and competitive environment, different age groups have different free throw positions.

In the past, lines were marked on each court, however with new key markings on existing courts and many new courts being used, the lines are not always marked.

 

The following rules apply in all EDJBA games:

Under 13 and Above

The standard foul line is to be used for all Under 13 and above free throws.

Under 10, 11 & 12

These age groups are moved forward (closer to the ring) by 1 metre for all free throws. Please note Under 9 has been changed to 1.8m as from Summer 2021-22, so the diagram at left needs to be updated.

Under 8 & 9

Under 8 & 9 free throws are moved forward by 1.8 metres (6 feet). This is equivalent to the front of the circle on the old key markings. Please note Under 9 has been changed to 1.8m as from Summer 2021-22, so the diagram at left needs to be updated.
