EDJBA Girls Showcase Round 13 Saturday 3rd August

Following two very successful Girls Showcases in July last year and February this year, we are very pleased to announce a third Girls Showcase to be held in Round 13 on Saturday 3rd August 2024.

This Girls Showcase returns to La Trobe Sports Stadium, the venue of the first Girls Showcase, an event which was suggested by Ivanhoe Basketball Club. In round 13, all girls’ teams from Ivanhoe and Banyule will be playing home games at La Trobe, the largest EDJBA venue. All 81 games at the six courts will feature girls’ teams. Most EDJBA clubs will have at least one girls team playing at La Trobe and we hope that all clubs support the day. The fixture for the round is attached.

The EDJBA set another Winter record for the number of teams entered, with an increase from 1,484 teams last Winter to 1,566 teams this Winter (5.5%). Pleasingly, the increase in the number of girls teams was 7% (from 468 to 501), however girls’ teams still only make up 32% of the total teams. The Girls Showcase will promote and celebrate the participation of girls in basketball, and we hope to see an increase in girls team numbers next season.

A Girl Power award will be given out for each game, with the recipient receiving a pink Molten basketball. Special guests, referees and venue staff will choose a player in each game who impresses them in some way. More information about other activities on the day will be available closer to the date.

In addition to showcasing and celebrating girls’ basketball, the round will also support the Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA). BCNA is Australia’s leading breast cancer consumer organisation bringing together a network of over 120,000 individuals. There are many ways teams can get involved in the showcase including purchasing pink socks and other merchandise through the BCNA website or donating through the link below. All funds raised from the Girls Showcase will help ensure BCNA can continue to ensure all Australians diagnosed with breast cancer receive the very best care, treatment and support.

All clubs can be involved in supporting the round and supporting the BCNA. We encourage players to wear pink socks on the day and supporters at all clubs to wear pink. Pink socks and other merchandise including scrunchies, beanies, arm band tape, shoe laces, tattoos and drink coolers can be purchased to support the BCNA via this link:  https://pinksportsday.bcna.org.au/store  When making a purchase, please ensure it can be recognised as associated with the EDJBA and your club by doing the following:

  • When completing your details in the checkout, tick the box next to “This payment is on behalf of an organisation” and then put EDJBA and your club name (club name optional). This allows us to know how much merchandise was purchased for the Girls Showcase event

Some BCNA merchandise will be on sale on the day, but we encourage you to purchase online prior if you can.

Members can also make a donation to our BCNA fundraising page here: https://pinksportsday.bcna.org.au/my-fundraising/2024/edjba-girls-showcase-august-3rd-2024

We look forward to your support of the Girls Showcase!
